Suffolk bunch

One Friday afternoon, Tom, Roz, Amanda and I packed up the car and headed due northeast: to Suffolk. Here we stayed in a beautiful cottage complete with a roaring fire

Sadly no pictures of the cottage remain, but on the Saturday, we fulfilled a 10-year-old promise to visit the St Peter's Brewery, near Bungay. The ecclesiastical ambience is down to its origins as an abbey. St Peter's probably has more different varieties of beer than most breweries, which made for an entertaining tasting session. As did the man from Johnny Walker with the gammy leg.

In high spirits, we headed for lunch at the Ship in Dunwich, formerly the largest port in the entire world! Or almost. It was quite big, and now it's virtually a hamlet, due to the ravages of the sea. Next, we went for a walk along the foreshore and marshes. Here is the only photo of all four of us:

Meanwhile, here is a photo of three of us:

All the best walks have a frisson of danger. This walk had more than its fair share. First of all, there was Sizewell B.

Let's hope it doesn't suffer the same fate as most of Dunwich. Then, there was a section of footpath through the marshes that we weren't allowed to be on. Unfortunately, we were forced to choose between obeying Environment Agency killjoys or walking back the same way we came.

The EA lost out. Here, Amanda mocks the 'elf and safety' implications of what we have just done. The Daily Mail would be proud.

The bleak landscape meant moody shots were the order of the day. Roz, contemplating sticklebacks in the marshes. Maybe:

And, completing our masterclass of photographic styles, the MOR album shot.

Tom took our photo too.

On the last day it rained, but we managed a walk around Framlingham Castle and a discussion on the merits of the new Observer over Sunday lunch.
